.047uF (.047 mfd) Metallized polyester non inductive capacitor. This is the famous Mallory® Mustard Cap. Its small physical size and axial style leads make these caps a pleasure to use in guitar circuit wiring. 10% tolerance.

The .047 cap value is commonly associated with single coil guitar pickups and commonly used with the tone circuits for Strat® or Tele® guitars and other manufacturers using similar pickup designs where one may want the option to remove a lot of brightness. They can also be used with other pickup types if you desire more highs cut or are attempting to have a unique and darker tone.

Specifications:

  • Value: .047uF
  • Lead type: Axial
  • Voltage Rating: 250VDC
  • Tolerance: +/- 10%

‘60’s concentric jazz bass rewire

I recently bought a fender/squier jazz bass hybrid that someone had assembled from parts. Fender neck and hardware and squier body and pickups. After an initial setup, it felt really good, and it sounded decent, but the seller had wired the concentric pots incorrectly, so I decided to use this opportunity to install a pair of Lindy Fralin jazz bass pickups and rewire the entire bass as it was intended, (like an early ‘60’s jazz bass)and also shield the body cavities. I purchased a .033 and .047 Mallory Mustard tone caps from GRParts and they made a world of difference. Highly recommended products and customer service. With the new components, this went from a $400 bass to sounding and feeling like a very professional instrument. Between the brighter .033 for the bridge pickup and the .047 for the neck, there is a substantially wider tonal variation than previously.
